It was only a few weeks ago that I saw a poll on a website asking whom people would most like as President of the USA. Arnold Schwarzenegger was one of the options, and he had by far the highest percentage of the votes. I guess he saw the poll too, because guess what? Arnold announced yesterday during a taping of 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno' his decision to run for California governor! He called it the toughest decision he's made since getting a bikini wax in 1978. Interesting analogy.
Hey, if actor Ronald Reagan can get elected to President, I see no reason Arnold can't make it to governor, and California is just the kind of place to do that. Actually he might be quite good, because many politicians (in my opinion) make their decisions based on how it will affect their popularity rather than what is best for the country, whereas I have the feeling Arnold would not think that way. It's going to be damn interesting to see what happens. Worth noting is that 'Hustler magazine' publisher Larry Flynt has also declared his intent to run for governor there.
The most recent poll on AOL for preferred candidate shows Arnold holding 75% of the votes (which is huge), and that's from a current total of just under 180,000 individual votes so far. The current governor has 14% of the votes.
Only in America.

I'd vote for his ass! Ronald Reagan was an actor. I don't see Arnold selling weapons to the wrong people though. :)

LOL ..and I can imagine if he doesn't get elected.. "I'll be back!"
FYI that AOL poll has now over 300,000 votes.. Arnie has moved up to 76%. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see him as governor. I'd vote for him.

Do you not see the similarity? Ronald - Arnold? Same letters. Divination, huh.

Wait a sec, Arnie was born in America?
Nereus | August 8, 2003 3:24 PM | Reply
Jimmy Carter was a peanut farmer.
Arnie was born in Brussels I think (hence the old nickname 'the muscles from Brussels') ..actually no I just checked it out; he was born in Austria (Brussels is in Belgium) ..either way, he wasn't born in the US. I don't think it matters though (legally speaking), as long as you're an American citizen.

I am not too sure what the federal law has to say about citizenship and Presidency, but you can bet I won't be looking it up. :) I know... laziness.
anonymous | August 8, 2003 5:05 PM | Reply
you can't be US president if not born in the U.S., but you can be the Secretary of State (Albright), or, i guess, running for governor is ok too. and "muscles from brussels" pertains to van damme, he;s belgian.

Was George Washington born in America?
Im not a yank but i doubt they have a law about being born in the US and being a president, i think just a citizen is ok.
And go Arnie, maybe for once the dip shit starting the war can pick up a gun and fight in it as well.

Um, Arnie is an *actor* in real life, you realize, not an actual terminator?
Nereus | August 10, 2003 1:54 PM | Reply
..or so he'd have us believe..
PuttyGirl | August 10, 2003 10:19 PM | Reply
Actually Gavin Messenger, it's true I found out that you have be born in the US to be President... I believe it actually stemmed from our forefathers being under foreign rule. We were breaking away from England and didn't want anyone from out of the US coming in and taking office... or something like that.

How are ya anyway Gav?
Gavin Messenger | August 11, 2003 6:33 PM | Reply
Hi ya M
Well I'll be bugged mate. My plans to rule the world have failed already. I don't qualify for the preseidential election race even if I can get citizenship!
Alls good with me. Just in Melbourne at the moment on busines so I thought I'd check out the site again whilst bored in my hotel room.
Hey and I reckon Arnie has been plannin for this all his life.
Maybe hes still the terminator and has come back to stop the holocaust by becoming the president and closing down signet.
Catch ya later

Arnold is definitely qualified to run in the gubernatorial race; it's the same as drinking age with a few additions in California and probably many other states (Reference). It's only the Presidency of the United States that requires American citizenship, or to be a citizen of the USA at the time of the adoption of the Constitution, which nowadays is pretty much the same thing (Article II, Clause 5). So definitely no Presidency for Ahnold, but perhaps governorship.

Sorry, I guess html references aren't supported, or I did them wrong. The first reference was from Findlaw, and the second from www.house.gov.

Yeah sorry Trish, I disabled HTML due to the 'recent comments' listing at the bottom of the index page.. it cuts off the comment content after a specified amount of characters, and if that happens to be in the middle of a link, the rest of the index page becomes part of that link :/
Gav - Are you doing your own business full time now or what?
Erin - Maybe there should be an exception made for Arnie as Prez :)
PuttyGirl | August 13, 2003 12:50 PM | Reply
I am with ya... let's get him elected. Can't be any worse than the clowns running this place recently. I don't vote(I know... I know)but I think I would have to at that point.
BTW, I don't know what OS you have on yer system, but if you have XP go to this site to recieve a security patch that had something to do with the worm virus going around yesterday. patch link.

M - Still working for Thomson in Australia who actually run FindLaw, as mentioned by Trish. We do the Australian version and I run the web development business they have for law firms in Australia, I built over 100 sites last year. I also do some of this on the side through my own business to take care of the overflow, but we are getting more resources now so this will dry up early next year.

Its unfortunate that Arnie cant be President, but he might make a good governor. I'd vote for him just to see how he does, especially since I wouldn't have to suffer the consequences if he didn't work out :-)

The circus is over and now we got a split administration, tons of $ spent, and an admitted sexual offender in office. It's funny how Republicans can't accept consentual adultery, but forced contact is AOK. Got to love 'em.

will vote the boob-tube, will obey the Corporate supported campaign.

err.. Paisley, care to give any kind of supportive facts to back up your extremist views? Interestingly enough, Arnie is one of the few politicians in the US not in it for the money or in it because of 'corporate sponsorship' (which is arguably the same thing).
err.. you DO realize Arnie can't run for President since he wasn't born in the US, don't you?
hmm.. educated.. as opposed to uneducated? I think I'd rather take the advice of the educated thanks (depending on your definition of educated).
